Dan Martin Trio opens the Jingle Jams series with joyous music for the holiday season.

Metropolitan Klezmer

Hailed as one of the finest American Klezmer bands, Metropolitan Klezmer performs inspired neo-traditional interpretations and compositions springing from a varied, eclectic Yiddish repertoire including ethereal trance, rollicking dance, imaginatively arranged Yiddish swing and tango, plus genre-expanding originals such as klezmer cumbia. The bandmates bring together stylistic backgrounds from Latin jazz to funk and folk, zydeco and reggae to baroque.

Brandee Younger

Experience the harp this holiday season like never before! Brandee Younger is a versatile artist who has defied genres and labels, performing in both traditional and modern harp areas. Her ability to spotlight the harp in music genres where it is often times absent is a testament of her love for the instrument and her cross-reaching ability as a musician.

The Classical Guitar Trio | “Holiday Elegance”
Few instruments are more evocative of the festival holiday spirit than the classical guitar. Playing melodies by Bach and other songs of the season, this elegant trio bring the rich sounds of the traditional holiday season to life.

Tengyue Zhang, Guitar and Group Leader
Tengyue Zhang was born in China and began to study classical guitar at the age of 5. In the fall of 2012, Zhang began his bachelor of music degree at the Juilliard School under the guidance of Professor Sharon Isbin. Zhang won first prize at the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) International Guitar Competition Senior Division, as well as first prize at the International Guitar Youth Competition in Vienna. Zhang has held recitals in Vienna and at th eopening ceremony of the Guitar Art Festival in Belgrade, Serbia.

The JQ Whitcomb Trio | “Slowing Down the Season”
Take a break from the holiday rush and slow down with this smooth collection of favorite holiday songs and jazz standards. This jazz trio will evoke the New York City of a bygone era with tunes from Let it Snow to Embraceable You.

JQ Whitcomb, Trumpet
J.Q. was born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He graduated with a B.M. in Jazz Performance and a B.A. in Chinese Language from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, where he studied with trumpet masters Marcus Belgrave and Kenny Davis. He lived and worked in the jazz scene in Shanghai, China for 8 years, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. he has released two albums as bandleader with his quintet Five Below, and is currently working on a masters degree at The Juilliard School in New York City.

The John Hong Wind Trio | “Winter Winds”
This beautiful wind trio create the sounds of a winter wonderland with unique arrangements. Performing immortal classics as well as great holiday music, the John Hong Wind Trio will play workds by Bach, Pachelbel, Mozart, and arrangements of classics like Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, and more by Juilliard graduate student Joshua Cerdenia.

John Hong, Clarinet
Active within The Juilliard School, Mr. Hong has performed with the Aziom ensemble, the Dance Division’s Choreography and Composition series, and The Juilliard Orchestra in numerous venues, including David Geffen Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Carnegie Hall. Mr. Hong also has the distinction of being a recipient of the Morse and Gluck fellowships through The Juilliard School, infusing the values and enrichment of music through lectures and performances in numerous grade schools, hospitals, and psychiatric facilities throughout New York City.
