The All that Glitters exhibition investigates simulated worth and the dazzling appeal of glistening, shiny surfaces. FCP Main Lobby, 16-27 Sept 2019.
“All that glitters is not gold,” goes the adage coined by Shakespeare in his Merchant of Venice, meaning a person’s true nature can’t be determined solely by outward appearance. In this Instagram age, seven artists find inspiration in this notion, and apply it to subjects as vast as the night sky, the digital realm and material consumption. In the resulting exhibition, we’re invited to reassess the value of physical beauty, celebrity status and all that shimmers and shines.
