Interpreting the rose: sculpture as you’ve never see it before – at the point where art, fashion, and beauty intersect.

From the age of twelve, Canadian-born Mark Fast dreamed of being a fashion designer. Today, he is one of the world’s most distinctive creators of knitwear – a term hardly sufficient to describe the sensual and strikingly sculptural products of his art.

Brookfield Place, Bay Street facade
In Le siècle des lumières, 2008 - 10, Doyon-Rivest make spectacular use of the cathedral-like qualities of the Allen Lambert Galleria at Brookfield Place. The artists transform the Bay Street entrance’s 18-meter-high window into a giant stained glass-like artwork, featuring portraits of people lit by the small screens of their portable electronic devices. Each image, many of which were shot on location in Brookfield Place, reveals only the person’s face as they gaze at their cell phones, iPods or Blackberry’s. The portraits float together in an indeterminate black space, creating an atmosphere that makes us think of the beauty of the night sky.

VOTA: Meniscus
Celebrating Earth Day 2010

April 12 - 24, 2010
Daily, 8am - 8pm

Brookfield Place, Allen Lambert Galleria

VOTA: Meniscus is a kinetic machine that is brought into contact with a lush green oasis through the sounds made by viewers. Each string responds to a different set of notes in the register of the human voice. Sing or speak loudly into the sculpture and the strings respond, spinning and sweeping out transparent helixes in choreography with the music. They pull the brass rods out of the pond, causing them to hover over the foliage.
