TODAY’S CONCERT HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE WINTER GARDEN.
Thomas Mapfumo, the Zimbabwean artist, activist, and icon has used his revolutionary, spiritually charged
chimurenga (Shona for “struggle”) music to decry injustice and highlight the historical and cultural issues that underlie the news headlines of his native land. Mapfumo, who lives in the US in exile due to political unrest under the Mugabe regime, is a musical visionary and a fearless social critic and considered by many one of the greatest African bandleaders of the past century. He will be joined by his band on mbira (thumb piano), bass, guitar, percussion, and keyboard.
