Though the city has flooded many times over the centuries, the recent tumult of Hurricane Sandy has elicited hard questions about its very nature. The artists in Fluid: Construct – David Baskin, Jason Head, Wyatt Nash, and Emily Sartor –will explore the interconnections of NYC’s relationship with water.
Arts Brookfield celebrates Make Music New York 2013 with an afternoon honoring the jazz saxophone! New York City – Mecca for the saxophone – is where Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Charlie Parker, Albert Ayler, Jimmy Heath, and others came as unknowns and made their own unique contributions to the greatness of jazz, and in the process became legendary giants of the idiom. Some of the hippest voices of today’s jazz shine over three 15-minute solo sets at six different locations. Bring a lunch, join the musical journey, and experience a unique adventure that could only happen in New York City.
Mark di Suvero's "Joie de Vivre" anchors the southeast corner of Zuccotti Park, located near One Liberty Plaza at Broadway and Liberty Street. The 70-foot-tall sculpture was donated to New York City by Agnes Gund, president of the Museum of Modern Art, and her husband Daniel Shapiro. Originally set in Tribeca at the Holland Tunnel rotary, it has been exhibited in Paris at the Esplanade des Invalides, near Pont Alexandre II bridge and at Storm King Center, New York.
In 2006 Brookfield Properties undertook an $8 million renovation of the lower Manhattan public plaza, formerly called Liberty Plaza Park, and “Joie de Vivre” assumed it’s new prominent location. Di Suvero and his wife Kate Levin, attended the opening ceremony for Zuccotti Park, renamed in honor of John Zuccotti, US Chairman of Brookfield Properties.
