Richard Rome has exhibited widely, but has had just four solo shows in a long career devoted to making sculpture and to teaching. This exhibition shows work in bronze, iron and steel in the Lobby of One Canada Square and outdoor locations in Canary Wharf. From small studies to monumental pieces, the selection reveals Rome as an artist of originality and thoughtful endeavor. At the outset of making a sculpture he has no definitive plan for the outcome but builds and revises with intense visual attention and consideration for its form. In his own words, “Sculpture is not just a working material. It’s about wanting a certain kind of emotional experience from what results.”
Richard Rome has traveled widely in America during his career, working with groups of sculptors in New York City, New York State, Chicago and Indiana.
